Duties/Responsibilities
We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer to be based at our site in Abingdon.
Hours of Work:08:00 until 17:00 - Monday to Friday 
 
Job Purpose: 

You will be reasonably expected to attend and complete relevant NVQ / Training as
depicted by your Line Manager. Whilst on site you will be expected to carry out any
reasonable labourer task request. You will work towards having the knowledge and
building the skills needed to carry out your trade specific tasks. You will gain knowledge and awareness of resource management, customer service, communication skills, health and safety and quality. The need for a sensible, flexible and customer focussed attitude is vital.

Towards the end of the qualification you will be expected to be included in the daily management of operations to ensure consistent delivery of the account by FM and their sub contractors for all building operations and maintenance.

  • Main Duties: 
    • To learn the skills needed to carry out planned preventative maintenance and fault finding/ repairs/ rectification

    • Diagnosis and repair on a variety of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment including:

      • Heating and Cooling systems

      • Electrical plant and equipment

      • Mechanical plant and equipment

      • HVAC systems

      • Air conditioning system

      • Local extraction systems

      • Air Handling Units

      • General plumbing

      • Domestic hot water and water distribution systems

      • Unvented hot water heater regulations

    • Attendance, support and general labourer repairs such as (minor fabric works, safe isolation, other trades support)


    • The aim is to be fully competent at the end of the period to undertake the following:

      • Manage and Monitor the CMMS and Building Management Systems.

      • Carry out all operation and maintenance activities as residential resource in area of competency

      • Monitor maintenance carried out by specialist sub contracts

      • Responsible for adding ALL ad hoc work requests as required to ensure all information collected on one system.

      • Provide specialist advice and support for all Technical Services management activities associated with all building services.

      • Implement technical initiatives and provide support to overcome issues or non-compliance reports.

      • Familiarisation of the building portfolio, supporting plant, systems and core business process equipment to ensure technical competency as part of the technical team.

      • Monitor all supplier activities to ensure performance levels of operation and maintenance is maintained.

    Operate as the Approved Persons for all areas of competency with review and approval of the associated Permits To Work.
Person Specification
  • Studying (or have qualifications) in Maths, English and a Science or craft based 
  • subject to a minimum grade C
  • Articulate, numerate and IT literate
  • Reasonable understanding of FM and Building Services Engineering
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to identify health and safety and environmental issues
  • Have good communication skills
  • Be resilient under pressure and be able to converse confidently with staff, suppliers and customers at all levels
  • Must be able to travel/ get access to and from site
