Duties/Responsibilities
    We are currently recruiting for a Apprentice Pipefitter to join our team in Portsmouth.
     
    The working hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 17:00pm.
    • Assist in electrical installation activities through effective organisation, planning, co-ordination and communication.

    • Gain an understanding of low pressure hot water heating, chilled water, domestic water and other pipework systems including pressure testing.

    • Gain a general knowledge and understanding of above ground drainage, sanitary ware, compressed air and other associated pipework systems.

    Gain a good practical knowledge of and experience in steel, copper, plastic and stainless steel pipework systems.
     
    • Undertake a personal development programme leading to a National Vocational Qualification as part of the apprenticeship.
    • To actively participate in their development plan, this is to be agreed with the line manager and the assessor from the training provider.
    • As part of the Major Projects Team, the pipefitting apprentice will be responsible for supporting the account from a mobile role across the south of the UK.
    • To work as a member of a Contracts Team providing our clients with an effective and responsive service.
    • You are required to undertake duties as directed by your appointed lead operative and/or the line manager.
    • Assist in coordinating and installing pipework services in general accordance with the clients’ requirements, documentation and under the instruction of appointed lead operative and/or the line manager.
    • Assist in maintaining statutory compliance testing and all related paperwork
    • To work under the supervision of and to learn mechanical engineering skills including but not limited to boiler, chiller and other associated plant installations support systems and pressure testing.
    • To undertake relevant training on and operate plant as directed.
    • To take part in meetings and training as directed by the line manager.
    To carry out office administration duties including filing, photocopying, and answering queries via phone and email.
    Person Specification
     
    • Studying (or have qualification) in Math, English and a Science or craft-based subject to a minimum grade C (GCSE).
    • Articulate, numerate and preferably IT literate.
    • Reasonable understanding of Building Services Engineering.
    • Be able to demonstrate the ability to identify health & safety and environment issues.
    • Have good communication skills.
    • Be resilient under pressure and be able to converse confidently with staff, suppliers and customers at all levels.
    • In conjunction with the HSE&Q team, regularly monitor the safety performance of all service aspects, identifying areas for improvement.
    • Ensure you receive regular toolbox talks in accordance with local procedures.
    • Ensure you have appropriate PPE issued and it is worn in accordance with associated risk.
    • Ensure all equipment, tools and PPE are adequately maintained.
    • Must be self-motivated, a team player and have an adaptable/flexible approach.
    • Capable of obtaining the highest level of security clearance, currently DV.
    • Travel will be required and some overnight stays in hotels pending on job location.
