Duties/Responsibilities

Job Purpose:
  • To provide health, safety and environmental guidance, leadership, advice and support for EMCOR UK mobilisations and transitional activities.
  • To provide safety operations and assurance oversight to operational accounts where required to improve operational safety and support EMCOR UK’s safety and environmental agenda.  
  •  Support the delivery of an integrated Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environmental (HSWE) agenda, working collaboratively with WSA disciplines, including the HSW BP, Technical and Risk Assurance teams, Environmental Manager and Wellbeing Business Partner for the implementation of site based HSWE operating systems.
 
Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for providing professional and practical HSWE support to the new EMCOR UK business, working alongside the Technical Assurance M&T BP and collaboratively with the Head of M&T and mobilisation managers, delivering scheduled activity in accordance with the M&T plan.
  • Develop relationships with all EMCOR UK agencies in producing and executing proactive strategies for the HSWE management of any TUPE workforce, incoming supply chain and the wider external community in the context of those people living near to and/or likely to be affected by EMCOR UK operations.
  • Proactively support EMCOR UK education and communications strategies which underpin programmes that are designed to help our new workforce understand how best to manage their physical and mental health along with when and where to access specialist support.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the practical application of HSWE practitioner led techniques, internally and externally for EMCOR UK; promoting our approach to HSWE within our newly appointed customer base and prospective customers as requested.
  • Support and manage EMCOR UK risk-based assurance programmes, in line with corporate HSWE policies and procedures; and to recommend and execute supportive strategies designed to positively affect productivity and output.
  • Provide intellect and oversight to maximise efficiencies in operations and ensure sustainable service quality initiatives are consistent with those of EMCOR UK, regulatory industry standards and customer expectations across HSWE disciplines.
  • Recommend, and where directed, discharge activities across all areas of HSWE, in support of a balanced and participative approach to the delivery of workplace interventions.
  • Where directed, working with operational teams and appropriate SMEs (internal and external) assist in the development of the delivery model for HSWE mobilisation and transition.
  • To participate in the execution of a rolling PR, marketing, and communications strategy, to improve overall company understanding of HSWE through contribution to website updates, social media, monthly newsletters, networking events. Develop proactive customer and supply chain relationship development in conjunction with the HoSO EMCOR UK forums, and site culture groups.
  • Support, proactively influence and educate on a positive HSWE culture throughout EMCOR UK through involvement with continuous health education, seminars, and business-related forums.  
  • Support, coordinate, execute and maintain wellness programming for new EMCOR UK business, to reduce health and safety risk and encourage healthy lifestyles with the aim of reducing EMCOR UK’s unforeseen incident, sickness absence and presenteeism levels to positively affect the impact of company adverse costs.
  • Practically inform on all aspects of EMCOR UK HSWE policies and activities, ensuring that it is implemented consistently throughout new business gains.
  • Monitor, evaluate and effectively discharge HSWE legislation (in accordance with the Legal Register) ensuring that EMCOR UK has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance and other statutory, regulatory or best practice requirements.
  • Ensure rigorous risk assessment and learning methodologies and systems are effectively dispersed throughout the new business gains in conjunction with the relevant WSA lead.
  • Support in the development of an effective HSW auditing process, liaising with the HoSO in agreeing objectives to improve the HSW of our employee base

Person Specification

  • Degree level qualification, preferably in a safety-related discipline, or a similar technical field with demonstrable safety experience.
  • Hold or working towards Chartered/professional registration, i.e. CMIOSH. PIEMA (Practitioner Member of IEMA) desirable.
  • A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of aspects of health, safety, environmental and risk management.
  • Practical and current knowledge of HSWE legislation and standards.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems with a high degree of procedural, technical and HSWE compliance. 
  • Ability to listen, interpret and provide supportive advice on HSWE issues.  Able to extract and effectively applying leading and lagging data to support the HSWE agenda.
  • Excellent writing, editing, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Experience of informing businesses in good practice technical and safety management.
  • IT literate including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheets and Visio.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Possess the energy and infectious enthusiasm to deliver results close actions and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to shape and influence, ability to analyse complex data and deliver evidence-based recommendations through a high level of written technical standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and on paper, able to present argument and arrive at evidence-based decision making.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and to pay close attention to detail on many varied tasks. Excellent interpersonal skills.
