We are currently recruiting for a Senior Security Manager for our site in Reading, Berkshire

Job Purpose:
The Senior Security Manager must have or develop a detailed knowledge of all operations at their designated mission critical sites and become known as the local security representative to all site occupants. They must be capable of producing site risk assessments: site security plans, responsible for the management and implementation of security recommendations, be capable of conducting compliance checks: ensuring continued compliance using system performance techniques and attending local site forums.

They will be required to provide security expertise, survey sites and implement the most appropriate security design to ensure the protection of all site personnel, property and assets.  Identify and implement the provision of re-active/pro-active physical security services, utilising project management tools/techniques, based upon the targets and objectives of the Physical Security Team.  Work with minimal direct management or supervision, positively influence & build two-way relationships with all the key stakeholders and external suppliers.  Be responsible for the cost-effective implementation of security works within agreed timescales and on target, managing budget to agreed and allocated levels.
  • To manage and take operational and financial ownership for total success of security for a high-profile client, working with the site teams to ensure service success and KPI delivery.
  • Ownership of security quality manual and associated assignment instructions
  • Proactive management of compliance procedures in line with EMCOR UK Company processes and policies including H&S, Human Resource planning and managing Quality Assurance. To contribute towards, further development and implement the ONE EMCOR objectives.

  • Deliver the Key Account objectives and goals in line with the EMCOR UK Key Account Plan.
  • Ensure adequate and timely responses to incidents and changed customer requirements.
  • Ensure manning of the sites at contracted levels with regular shift patterns and with trained and qualified staff.
  • Work in partnership FM colleagues, ensuring all aspects of the contract Security requirements is effectively managed.
  • To be the focal point for all Security related issues.
  • Fully understand the use of all IT systems and applications and to monitor the correct application of the IT Security Policy.
  • To maintain liaison with relevant local, external agencies (e.g. Police, Fire) on a regular basis.
  • To assist in the management of any external activity that might impact on the customers’ business.
  • To arrange for a suitable deputy for periods of training, holiday etc.
  • To manage a Security team that is well motivated, informed, focused and clear about its roll and objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate motivation and formalised development training of staff to meet and exceed contractual requirements.
  • Arrange, where necessary, for additional security cover as required for increased threat levels.
  • Ensure intra-team communications are maintained and issues dealt with in a timely and effective manner.
  • Provide accurate and timely information for preparation of monthly and planning reports.
  • Ensure that all cover, standard and extra, is accurately recorded and financially monitored.
  • Ensure provision of adequate information for proper personnel administration of employees.
  • Ensure Site Assignment Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are updated and maintained in response to incidents.  Ensuring that all team members have read and signed to say they understand the requirements of the procedures.
  • Ensure that all incidents and requests for assistance are accurately recorded on the correct database forms.
  • Monitor manpower requirements, recommending appropriate action to the nominated Centre.
  • Respond to subsequent requests for assistance in screening or other information required.
  • Ensure that a culture of relationship management, team working, task ownership and accountability including are actively encouraged and implemented across the site.
  • Drive new business initiatives and opportunities across the contract and effectively Implement any service variations, changes or agreed innovation.
  • Effectively communicate the operational management deliverables, objectives and targets to the team.
  • Evaluate performance data and operational status information for performance reporting purposes, ensuring a documented action plan is implemented for any out of line situations.
  • Ensure close liaison and relationship management with the client teams regarding the status of contractual operations.
  • To ensure service excellence and quality management are achieved across all service streams.
  • Ensure a programme of initiatives and achievements are maintained and kept on record through the value creation innovation process.
  • Initiate the standards set and review the forward planning of all service stream activities to ensure adequate manpower loading and effective use of resources.
  • Ensure quality performance through the auditing of EMCOR UK staff in the performance of their tasks
  • Escalation requirements and liaison is in place and systematically updated.
  • H&S - ensure a culture of safe working is developed across all service streams including Subcontractors.
  •  Guarantee compliance with all aspects of site Safety and Quality policy by means of auditing and self-checking (in conjunction with the accounts EHS Advisor).
  • Conduct staff performance appraisals of direct reports and subsequent training and development requirements.
  • Ensure the account objectives, goals and targets are clearly cascaded throughout the delivery teams.
  • Support and undertake investigations, reporting and instigation of corrective and disciplinary actions.
  • Follow EMCOR UK’s Code of Conduct and comply with the Client’s company rules and maintain a high standard of discipline.
  • Carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested from time-to-time by EMCOR Group (UK) plc.
  • Be available OOH’s for escalation purposes as agreed with the Account Director and Security Lead.
Resource Responsibilities:
5 x Security Operations Managers, 1 x Security Administrator, 70 + Corporate Security Supervisors & Corporate Security Officers.

Person Specification

  • Must hold an SIA NFL Licence
  • Clean history record in the achievement of vetting requirements – must be HMG SC Cleared (or willing to go through the vetting process and achieve the desired level). Previous achievement would be a distinct advantage.
  • Substantial management experience (at least five years) in the corporate security sector, law enforcement, HM Forces.
  • Proven exposure to developing strategic security solutions, implementing and delivering a first-class service.
  • The ability to develop and sustain productive working relationships within a wide circle of contacts at different organisational levels, including external agencies.
  • The ability to recognise set and personally achieve high quality standards and motivate others to do the same.
  • High calibre IT skills and presentation capability
  • High Level of understanding of customer service excellence and the ability to deliver quality service
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written English
  • Experience of report writing, agenda setting and chairing meetings

  • Level 5 Security Qualification or substantial experience in similar sectors, i.e. law enforcement, HM Forces.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • IOSH Managing safely
  • SIA Front Line Licences DS, CP, CCTV
  • Extensive management experience in the corporate security sector, law enforcement or
    HM Forces.
  • Sound working knowledge of Performance Measurement Systems
  • Understanding of Health & Safety at work regulations
  • Awareness of financial and corporate responsibilities
