Role Overview: 
Responsibilities:

The Director of Projects plays a crucial role in driving EMCOR UK's project success and business growth.

Key responsibilities include:

Collaborate with colleagues to achieve agreed outcomes for EUK, working across a diverse customer base with varying expectations.
 
Strategic Leadership.  Oversee the Project Delivery function and achieve profitability, proactive approach to safety, technical, quality & risk management & growth targets.
 
Client Relationships.  Build strong relationships with clients and their representatives, applying Key Account Management principles in collaboration with the account teams.
 
Business Development.  Develop and implement strategies to achieve growth targets, supporting our wider customer based and also working in conjunction with the Business Development team.
 
Tender Activities.  Engage in tender activities with supply chain and partners to develop compliant and cost-effective solutions.
 
Policy Adherence.  Ensure all activities comply with EMCOR UK policies, including health, safety, quality, environment, financial reporting, commercial, legislative, HR, and ethics.
 
Project Oversight.  Oversee the production and implementation of project programs.
 
Operational Planning.  Develop effective mobilisation plans to meet commercial and operational deliverables within agreed timescales.
 
Team Development.  Coach, mentor, and inspire project delivery teams for safe, effective, and cost-efficient project delivery.
 
Department Coordination. Work with financial, commercial, technical, and safety departments as required to deliver safe, effective and profitable project delivery.
 
Compliance & Assurance.  Ensuring projects are properly adjudicated and meet all compliance requirements. Take responsibility for the assurance and reporting of all assigned projects to relevant stakeholders, including programme/progress, cost control, risk, opportunities, potential exposure and proposed solutions.
 
Site Inspections.  Conduct routine joint site inspections and audits with stakeholders, ensuring corrective actions are recorded and closed out within agreed timescales.
 
Process Improvement.  Maintain and improve business processes for competence, capacity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
 
HR Management.  Ensure project teams have suitably qualified and experienced personnel in place, using HR strategies to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain talent.
 
Organisational Culture.  Develop a positive organisational culture reflecting EMCOR UK's brand and core values, fostering continuous improvement.
 
Lessons Learned.  Lead lessons learned and post project reviews and progress meetings with clients and stakeholders.

Person Specification

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive portfolio and project management experience in the FM, M&E, construction, or engineering sectors, including high-value and complex projects.
  • Proven track record of managing a project portfolio exceeding £120m annually.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of H&S, CDM guidelines, Building Safety Regulations, RIBA framework, design liability, tender processes, and supply chain management.
  • Strong experience in project financial management and commercial acumen.
  • Demonstrated success in value creation and business development activities.
  • Expertise in strategy development and transformational leadership, managing multi-disciplinary teams to drive continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Proficiency in project scheduling, programming, and technical software, including Microsoft Projects, PowerBI, and Visio. Familiarity with Simpro, Matterport, Revit, and BIM is desirable.
  • Excellent skills in collaborating with internal and external customers, including local authorities, regulators, and suppliers on complex issues.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage at all levels.
Education/Training:
 
Minimum:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, project or business management field or related areas of study or extensive equivalent and demonstrable experience.
  • Recognised qualification in Project Management (Prince2, APM, PMP certification) or extensive demonstrable experience and a willingness to pursue a formal Project Management qualification.
  • Recognised safety qualification (e.g. IOSH certification, SMSTS, CSCS etc) or a willingness to obtain.
  • Membership of (or willingness to work towards) the APM or PMI.
 Desirable:
  • CMI Level 6 in Management & Leadership or equivalent.
  • Training in CDM2015 and Building Safety Act regulations.
